Printing and Batik
Lisa Zukowski – Gelatin Plate Printmaking
Rosita Gilsenan – Batik
This week long workshop will introduce you to two techniques – batik and gelatin plate printmaking.

We begin with a two day course in Gelatin Plate Printmaking. This workshop introduces the participant to the technique of gelatin plate monotype printing. A fast, fun and easy method of printmaking, gelatin plate monotypes require no press.  Using water-based media on a matrix of gelatin, prints can be produced that resemble several traditional printmaking techniques. All necessary materials will be available.  Students are invited to bring any additional papers or fabrics they wish to work with.

The two days between working sessions will be filled with interesting experiences.  We will soak in the local color, and experience a full day in the wonderful city of Dublin.

The following two days will be the batik portion.  In this 2 day intensive workshop, we will create a series of batiks inspired by images from the landscape, and experiences from the first 4 days of our trip. Batik is the ancient art of dyeing images into natural fibers, such as silk, cotton, linen or wool, using hot wax to resist the cold dye process.
Wax and dyes will be provided. White silk fabric will be available. Students are invited to bring their own silk if they wish. (The heavier fabrics take a long time time to dry between dyings)

Total workshop $1000, plus $100 materials fee
